Natural and man-made disasters may strike anywhere, anytime. Humans must continually reduce the risks involved in facing misfortunes as to shorten suffering and hasten recovery. We humans have been transforming the planet and will continue to do so in the future in an accelerating fashion, not necessarily in positive ways, introducing more unknowns and new kinds of disasters. Therefore, campaigns to promote disaster awareness and responsible living must be conducted by a sinergistic partnership between the community, the government, and non-government institutions.
